About Raleigh
It all began in the year 1978 when Colonel John Blashford-Snell and HRH Prince Charles started Operation Drake, where Operation Drake served as a scientific exploration and a community service to allow young people the chance to explore the world and to inspire change by making a difference.

By the year 1984, Operation Drake became Operation Raleigh as it was a success that involved an astounding number of 4,000 volunteers from all different parts of the globe.
As the years go by, the number of volunteers increased and Operation Raleigh then grew to become Raleigh International at the year 1992, all while reflecting on the achievements made by the volunteers whom have impacted the many communities where our expeditions have taken place.
Despite the changes Raleigh went through, what never changed was The Four Challenges that were founded from the very beginning of the first expedition. The challenges are:
1. Being Selected
2. Raising Funds
3. Going for Expedition
4. Contributing Locally
Today, Raleigh continues to empower young people from all walks of life, ages, and nationalities to be involved with people, places, communities and the challenges in life by taking action and as well as empowering change in the local communities to achieve sustainable development through expeditions.
