Raleigh International Has Ceased Operations 38 Years After Its Establishment

Dear friends and family of Raleigh Kuala Lumpur (RKL) and Raleigh Sabah Society (RSS),

As some of you may know, Raleigh International has officially announced their liquidation on the 19th of May 2022.

Like many of you, we are deeply saddened upon receiving this news. The existence of Raleigh International sparked a ripple effect that started with a handful of energetic young Malaysians embarking on their own expedition journey engaging in community, environmental, and adventure projects; who in turn sparked the birth of Raleigh Kuala Lumpur (RKL) and Raleigh Sabah Society (RSS).

These trailblazers continued to keep the Raleigh ember burning alive among the younger members of our community. It is a community built by leaders for future leaders.

What does this mean for RKL and RSS?

Rest assured that Raleigh Kuala Lumpur (RKL) and Raleigh Sabah Society (RSS) will still continue to operate independently as NGOs as we have been doing all this while.

We want to collaborate to run projects in Maliau Basin Sabah, and maintain our relations with National Societies from other countries to keep the Raleigh legacy alive.

What's next for the Global Raleigh Community?

In the short term, Raleigh Costa Rica and Raleigh Tanzania will carry on with expeditions this year despite the closure of Raleigh International.

In a meeting together with Raleigh International and Raleigh National Societies from across the world last week, the National Societies will be connected to form a Global Alliance Network. There will be a meeting at the end of the month to discuss what is the next course of action.

Meanwhile, we are pleased to announce the launch of Raleigh’s Global Alliance Network website. It will be used to archive Raleigh’s work and act as a platform to share updates from all the National Societies. You can check it out here at https://raleighglobal.org.

Lastly, the main question as to whether RKL and RSS can legally use the "Raleigh" name is still under negotiation and we will be informed by Raleigh International for the latest updates.
